If it’s summer here at Broad View Farm in Shenandoah Junction, it’s peach time! We’re incredibly fortunate to have the most gorgeous peach orchard here on our property in Jefferson County, WV (about an hour outside Washington DC) and even better, have that orchard impeccably maintained by the folks at nearby Uvilla Orchard.
My daughter and son-in-law were married in the orchard in September 2012, although the peaches had gone the green and gold leaves of the orchard were the perfect setting for the early fall ceremony. We made peach jam for the wedding favors (200 jars to be exact, I was canning all summer long!) as a nod to the orchard, not a full-on theme. As the years have gone by and the orchard has matured the display has become even more fantastic. I’ve imagined a peach-themed event in the orchard with peaches everywhere – hanging from the trees and featured on the table.
Crystal, vintage china and heirloom linens on a farm table lit with candles. What a perfect place for a small dinner party, bridal shower, engagement party or wedding supper! Which leads me to last week.
When my friend Shannon of
Sweet Caroline Photography approached me about a midsummer wedding shoot here at Broad View Farm I was beyond excited. A beautiful bride to celebrate among the peach trees!
Local florist
Westvirjeni put together some of her fabulous floral creations for the bride and table, and I pulled vintage crystal, china and candlesticks from our collection here at Broad View Events. Oh, and a quick little trip to Pier One Imports for those great lanterns and metallic bead-edged napkins – I love those 😉 Then we added the peaches.
Our bride was gorgeous at the hands of the ladies from
My Tanique. They did her hair in a simple but stunning updo that would be appropriate for any wedding, and especially a July 96′ in the shade wedding, which was what we were dealt the day of the shoot. Lindsay’s makeup was flawless and stayed that way through seven hours of prep and photos.
Even though she was in the middle of preparations for her own wedding, our friend Katherine Yum (katherineyumco@gmail.com or find her on Instagram @katherine_yum) created a whimsical invitation suite featuring, of course, peaches.
And when I decided to make a fresh Peach Sangria Station using our peaches and fun vintage punch cups, she created the sign for that too!
All in all it was an amazing collaboration of some seriously talented local wedding vendors. When you have a team of creative individuals all in sync it can be magic! It was a pleasure working with all these ladies and I can’t wait for the next opportunity to work with them again.

If you’ve never tasted one of Paul Elliott’s peaches you need to stop by his stand in Uvilla, West Virginia or visit Uvilla Orchards stand at the Shepherdstown and Charles Town farmers markets. Nothing store-bought can compare to the taste of these peaches and they’re as beautiful in real life as they are in Shannon’s pictures!
